Recommended Fabrics
For the outer fabric, choose a soft fabric with some structure: wool or wool blends, herringbone tweed, corduroy, cotton canvas, cotton twill, heavy cotton, or faux suede. Add fusible interfacing if a lightweight outer fabric needs more body.
For the lining, choose a thick soft fabric with body, such as sherpa, minky, cotton velour, plush polyamide knit, or another dense fleece-like fabric. A soft lining keeps textured outer fabrics comfortable against the neck.
Fabric Requirements
Outer fabric:
3–4 years: 27 × 6 in (68 × 15 cm)
6 years: 30 × 7 in (76 × 18 cm)
8 years: 33 × 8 in (85 × 20 cm)
12 years: 36 × 10 in (90 × 25 cm)
Adult Small: 38 × 11 in (96 × 28 cm)
Adult Medium–Large: 41 × 12 in (104 × 31 cm)
Adult XL: 44 × 12 in (112 × 31 cm).
Use the same amount for the lining.
Additional Materials
2 snap fasteners (smaller for children, larger for adults), coordinating thread, sewing machine, scissors, pins or clips, adhesive tape, and a snap press tool or hand-sewn snaps.
Skill Level
Beginner Friendly. Basic familiarity with a sewing machine is helpful. The photo-rich tutorial makes every stage clear and approachable.
